October 2, 2008 By admin

A Buchanan County Sheriff’s Deputy is in the hospital after crashing his squad car during a high-speed chase near Independence. It started around 10 p.m. Wednesday when 42-year-old Deputy Joseph Schwinghammer of Independence was assisting in a high-speed pursuit.

During the chase, the deputy’s car ran off the road at a "T" intersection and entered a ditch. Schwinghammer was airlifted to University Hospitals in Iowa City, but a condition report is not available. No other information on the pursuit is available.
