A Fairfield man is facing Arson and Attempted Murder charges for a fire that destroyed an apartment house. Investigators say they have determined that 36-year-old Henry Lamont Jones started the October 5th fire that gutted the apartment house at 800 West Kirkwood Avenue in Fairfield.

The building was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived just after 3 a.m. Two occupants of an upstairs apartment were rescued through a second story window. Jones, who lives just four blocks from the house, is being held in the Jefferson County Jail.

In addition to Arson and two counts of Attempted Murder, Jones is charged with first degree burglary and stalking in violation of a restraining order. The Southern Prairie Chapter of the American Red Cross is taking donations for two families who lost most of their belongings in the fire and did not have insurance.
