Fight at wedding lands two in jail

October 20, 2008 By admin

A fight at a wedding reception in western Iowa ended with two men in jail and the father of the groom in the hospital. Council Bluffs police were called shortly after 10 p.m. Friday to the Bayliss Park Hall.

Officers say 41-year-old Dean Sime of Council Bluffs and 23-year-old Clifford Ellis of Arvada, Colorado arrived at the reception and began yelling obscenities. Ellis punched a man in the face with brass knuckles. The groom’s father, 41-year-old Ricky Thomas, tried to intervene and was stabbed by Sime in the arm and stomach.

Thomas was taken to a local hospital in stable condition. Two other men were injured in the fight but refused treatment. Sime and Ellis were both charged with aggravated assault, and Sime was also charged with willful injury. They were booked in the Pottawattamie County Jail.
