Iowa State loses in shootout with Aggies

October 27, 2008 By admin

Iowa State’s offense showed improvement against Texas A&M but the Cyclones could not stop the Aggies as they lost for the sixth straight time with a 49-35 homecoming setback.

Austen Arnaud completed 31 of 39 passes for 371 yards and a struggling ground game showed life as the Cyclones amassed 173 yards on the ground. A pair of fumbles were costly and the Aggies scored 21 second quarter points to take command.

The Cyclones are now 0-4 in the Big 12 and 2-6 overall though coach Gene Chizik says the offense should be more confident as they prepare for this weekend’s visit to Oklahoma State. Chizik says it’s huge as the offense knows when it executes, they can score. He says they’ll take the positives from the game and build on them.

R.J. Sumrall had nine catches for the Cyclones for 143 yards and says despite the tough stretch he is not giving up on this season. Sumrall says he wants to win so bad that he doesn’t care if he doesn’t get any more catches or touchdowns, he just wants to win.
