Anamosa Penitentiary returns to normal after Tuesday attack

October 29, 2008 By admin

The state penitentiary in Anamosa has returned to normal operations today after three staff members were attacked by two inmates Tuesday. Iowa Department of Corrections spokesman Fred Scaletta says the assault prompted a temporary lockdown of the facility.

"We were able to get everything under control very quickly and the two inmates have been moved into segregated status," Scaletta said. The three staff members were treated at a hospital and released. The names of the offenders and employees, for now, are not being released.

"There’s still some more investigating to do, as far as interviews and so forth," Scaletta said. "Hopefully we’ll get that concluded in the next day or so." The inmates involved in the attack could face criminal charges.
