A federal lawsuit has been filed by two men from Ocheydan against Osceola County Cheriff Doug Weber over a gun permit. The action filed by attorneys for Paul and Alexander Dorr alleges infringement of their rights to keep and bear arms.

Court documents say that Paul Dorr runs Copperhead Consulting Services that supports other groups in political and election campaigns on controversial issues. The suit claims the men were denied permits to carry weapons by the sheriff’s office in 2007 and 2008. Paul Dorr had been reportedly granted the permit between 2000 and 2006. When he sought to renew it in 2007, Weber denied the request.

Dorr’s contention in the lawsuit is there was no factual or reasonable rationale to deny him the permit. The suit, filed as a class action, is asking for the federal court to order the sheriff’s office to immediately issue the nonprofessional permit. He’s also seeking attorney fees, court costs and other relief.
