Iowa has won two Big Ten championships under Kirk Ferentz so it was not the biggest win during his tenure but it certainly was the biggest upset. Daniel Murray’s 31-yard-field with one second remaining capped a fourth quarter rally as the Hawks stunned third ranked Penn State 24-23, handing the Nittany Lions their first loss of the season. Iowa is now 6-4.

Ferentz sasy the teams has been playing hard and competing hard all season, but has made some mistakes that kept them from winning. He says he was worried the mistakes would hurt them in the second half against Penn State, but they show resiliency to get the win.

Ferentz said earlier this year that the team had a chance to be good, and while he says he’s not sure if they are there yet, this was a great game on the way to getting there. Iowa survived two third quarter turnovers and scored the final ten points of the game to get the win.

Ferentz says they’ve played hard to the end of the game all season long and that finally paid off with a win. The Hawkeyes next host Purdue in their final home game.
