Police in Waterloo have not made any arrests yet following the Thursday morning beating death of a teenager. It happened sometime after two A.M. in a Kum and Go convenience store parking lot on the city’s south side. The victim is identified as 18-year-old Jasmine Mills. Police Captain Tim Pillack says there may be multiple suspects in Mills’ death.

"We’ve been able to determine two vehicles were involved and several different people were involved in the altercation where the victim was assaulted," Pillack said. Mills was pronounced dead at Covenant Medical Center. Investigators are now waiting for the results of an autopsy, scheduled for today.

Mills lived in an apartment building located near the Kum and Go. A neighbor in the building, Alicia Garrigus, believes Mills had a small child and lived with several other people. "I really didn’t know her personally but she lived next door and was mostly quiet and kept to herself," Garrigus said. "She would come in and out once in a while with, I guess, her baby…because I know she was pregnant at one time."

A spokesperson for Kum and Go did not know if any store employees saw the fight in the parking lot. The company has turned over surveillance video to police.
