Arrest made in death of Hiawatha man

December 16, 2008 By admin

A Hiawatha man was killed Sunday and police arrested the man suspected in his death on Monday. The victim is identified as 50-year-old Daniel James Meade. He was found unresponsive at a residence in Marion, where officers were called on the report of an assault.

Meade was pronounced dead at University Hospitals in Iowa City. Marion Police Chief Harry Daugherty says witnesses helped identify the suspect, 42-year-old Kim Allen Polley of Marion. Polley was taken into custody Monday morning and charged with first degree murder. Daugherty says it appears Meade was beaten to death.

"To the best of our knowledge, there were no weapons involved," Daugherty said at a press conference. Daugherty declined to speculate on a motive and only described Polley and Meade as acquaintances.
