The search for a new football coach is underway at Iowa State where Gene Chizik resigned after only two years on the job to become the new coach at Auburn. Chizik won just five games while leading the program but athletic director Jamie Pollard says the new coach will have a chance to succeed early on.

Pollard says he looks at it as someone coming in with an abundance of freshman that have played, and they should have an opportunity to win quickly. Pollard does not view it as a "dead end" job and says they have plenty to sell a prospective coach. He says it’s like recruiting someone, you have to find out what they are looking for and sell them on what you have to offer that meets their needs.

Pollard says he realizes there are no guarantees the next coach will stay for several years. He says he’ll do the same thing he does with all the coaches he hires, and he says if someone can come and help them continue to improve and then move on to somewhere else, he’s fine with that.
