Iowa aiports receive 5 million from federal government

Nearly five-million dollars in federal funding will pay for improvements at nine Iowa airports. Iowa Senator Tom Harkin says the funding comes in the form of grants from the Federal Aviation Administration.

Harkin is a senior member of the Senate panel that funds the F.A.A. Most of the money, about $4.3 million , will be directed to the Eastern Iowa Airport in Cedar Rapids for continued work on runways.

Just over $239,000 will be used to rehabilitate the apron at the airport in Sioux City. The seven other grants are all for under $100,000. They are being awarded to airports in Davenport, Carroll, Audubon, Winterset, West Union, Webster City and Cherokee.
