Iowa defensive coordinator expects the unexpected against South Carolina

December 24, 2008 By admin

Iowa’s defense has been solid all season but that unit will head into an Outback Bowl matchup with South Carolina expecting the unexpected. Hawkeye defensive coordinator Norm Parker says with Steve Spurrier at the helm and with several weeks to prepare the Hawks will need to be ready to adjust.

Parker says Spurrier is a very confident guy who is not afraid to “line up in any type of crazy formation.” Parker says when Spurrier goes golfing and lands in a sand trap, he probably draws up plays in the sand, as he has all kinds of gadget plays and is not afraid to use them.

Parker says they are good at throwing the ball and the timing of the passing game is very good. He says he went to a couple of practices when Spurrier was at Florida and saw how well their passing system works. Iowa is 8-4. South Carolina is 7-5.
