The federal government is forwarding almost half a million dollars worth of grants to seven Iowa fire departments. 

The largest grant of over $156,000 goes to Orange City so the town can buy a new vehicle for the fire department. The rest of the cities received grants which can be used for training, equipment, or fire station fix-up projects.

Burlington got a $149,216 grant; Grand Mound Volunteer Fire Company received a $17,385; the Jamaica, Iowa, Fire Department received $15,200; the Volunteer Fire Company in Mapleton received $28,830; the Walker Fire Department received $44,579 and the Washington Fire Department received $38,000.
