Heavy fog is blamed in the death of a boy from Ankeny. The accident happened on Friday in Crawford County. Eight-year-old Brevin Kramer was struck by a pickup truck hauling a trailer on Highway 59 between Denison and Schleswig.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, the roadway was wet and there was 100% fog at the time. An off duty nurse who came upon the scene rendered aid to Kramer, who was pronounced dead at Crawford County Memorial Hospital.

The driver of the pickup, 41-year-old Lonnie Pitts of Council Bluffs, is not charged in the case. Pitts told investigators he was traveling south on Highway 59 when he noticed the boy on the road. He applied his brakes and moved into the north bound lane but was unable to avoid hitting the child. The boy was with his father, Ted Kramer. They were visiting relatives in Denison and were on their way to go sledding.
