High-speed police chase opens New Year

January 1, 2009 By admin

An Urbandale man faces second-offense drunken driving charges after an early morning, high-speed chase in metro Des Moines.

Authorities say when the New Year was just about an hour old Joshua Neer of Urbandale ran into a police car in downtown Des Moines. The 25-year-old didn’t stop and kept driving, with police in pursuit. The chase, which started in Des Moines, wound through two suburbs.

Neer got onto Interstate 35-80, driving eastbound with police and state troopers trailing behind. His vehicle blew a tire on the northeast side of Des Moines — that’s where the chase ended.
