Drake seeks to keep momentum of SIU victory

January 7, 2009 By admin

The Drake Bulldogs are at home in Missouri Valley Conference action, tonight, against Indiana State. The Bulldogs are 2-1 in league play and looking to build momentum after posting their first victory at Southern Illinois since 1996.

Coach Mark Phelps says it’s important for them to be at their best at home, as he says road games are so hard to win, that the pressure shifts to the home team to win.

Indiana State is just 3-11 overall but Phelps says the Sycamores have been a much better team since the start of conference play. He says Harry Marshall recently joined the team and that has made them a different squad as Marshal presents a challenge.

Indiana State is 1-2 in the Valley and coach Kevin McKenna says the Bulldogs will be a tough matchup. McKenna says the Bulldogs play a similar style to last year’s team that dominated the Valley race and the biggest difference is the absence of point guard Adam Emmenecker.

He says last year Emmenecker made a good decision almost every time he drove, and this year the guards are able to beat you off the dribble a little more and can spread the floor a little more. Drake is 11-4 overall.
