A north-central Iowa factory is being hit with job cuts. Officials of the Ohio-based Eaton Corporation announced Thursday the layoff of 78 employees at the Belmond Eaton facility. The company produces engine machine valves and is the largest employer in the community located in northeastern Wright County.
The company will provide competitive severance packages to those employees affected by the layoffs. Eaton Communications Manager Jim Parks said the layoffs will take effect at the end of this month. The cutbacks at the Belmond Eaton facility represents about 20-percent of its workforce. The reason for the layoffs is due to the nation’s economic situation and the decline of customer orders.
