It was pretty but Drake came away with a win to move into a three way tie for first in the Missouri Valley Conference race. After trailing by ten in the opening half of play the Bulldogs rallied for a 74-69 win over a Wichita State team that is winless in conference play.

Drake coach Mark Phelps on his postgame show on KRNT in Des Moines says they didn’t play crisp basketball, but did make the plays when they needed them.. The Bulldogs improved to 4-1 in the Valley and 13-4 overall.

Phelps says they aren’t happy with the rebounding and turnovers, but they are happy with making the plays to get the win. Josh Young led five Bulldogs in double figures with 16 points and depth was a major factor in the outcome. Drake outscored Wichita State 31-6 off the bench.
