Morningside in thick of GPAC race

January 15, 2009 By admin

The Morningside men’s basketball team has won five of its last six games and is in the thick of the Great Plains Athletic Conference race. The Mustangs are 6-2 in the league race and part of a three-way logjam for third place.

Morningside coach Jim Sykes says they lost seven seniors from last year and had to rebuild and learn how to play together. The Mustangs are 7-0 at home this season and six of the next eight games will be played on their court. Sykes says you have to win your home games and then hope to take some on the road.

Morningside is just a game out of first and Sykes says one bad weekend can cause a team to fall a long ways in the standings. He says every week after the two games, the standings seem to move. Morningside plays host to Hastings College on Saturday.
