For the first time since December the UNI Panthers will try to bounce back from a loss when they host Southern Illinois on Wednesday night. The Panthers had their 11-game winning streak snapped by Creighton on Sunday.

UNI won the first matchup with the Salukis on New Year’s Eve but Panther coach Ben Jacobsen says a young Southern squad is growing up. Jacobsen says that experience has helped them and they are playing better and are a much different team from the first game.

Jacobsen says the attitude on the team has been positive through good times and bad. He says in late December when they were around .500 they talked about being committed to doing better and he says that’s been a big reason why they have been able to take some steps forward.

UNI’s first win over Southern started their win streak. Southern coach Chris Lowery says that win gave them confidence, as they followed it up with a win at Creighton and he says UNI is the most disciplined team in the league and that’s why they are in first place.
