A weekend two-vehicle accident near Blairsburg in Hamilton County has claimed another life. Nineteen-month-old Briar Ammerman Butz of Clarion died Tuesday at Blank Children’s Hospital in Des Moines.

She was the passenger in a sport utility vehicle operated by her mother, Ashley Ammerman, two miles north of Blairsburg on Highway 69 shortly before noon on Sunday when a southbound van driven by 53-year-old Dallas Johnson of Belmond swerved into the path of the Ammerman vehicle.

Fatally injured in the Sunday accident were Johnson’s passengers, 53-year-old Paula Johnson and 83-year-old Minnie Johnson, both of Belmond. The others injured in the accident were: Ashley Ammerman, 25-year-old Bryan Butz, six-year-old Taylan Elwood and three-year-old Landen Ellwood, all of Clarion.

They were transported to Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames where they were treated and released. Also taken to Mary Greeley was Dallas Johnson and his passenger, 17-year-old Seth Johnson, was transported to Hamilton Hospital in Webster City for treatment of his injuries. The weather conditions of last Sunday played a possible factor in the accident with the investigation continuing by the Iowa State Patrol.
