Cherokee woman dies in accident

May 12, 2009 By admin

An elderly Cherokee woman died Monday morning when her car collided with a semi-trailer truck in northwest Iowa. The victim has been identified as 88-year old Wilma Sawyer.

According to a report from the Iowa State Patrol, Sawyer was stopped at a red light on Willow Street in Cherokee. The semi, driven by 53-year old Robert James of Larrabee, was southbound on Highway 59 going through the intersection. Sawyer drove into the side of the semi-trailer and was trapped underneath, causing fatal injuries. Authorities say their investigation is continuing.
