A hostage standoff in Clinton has ended peacefully. The incident began at about 6:30 last evening when the suspect entered the Jewel-Osco store. Police say he set off the fire alarm and customers and employees left the store, except a male and female taken hostage.

Police say it is not known how many people were in the store at the time. The two hostages, a male and a female, are employees of the store and the suspect is believed to be a former employee and the female hostage a former girlfriend.

Police later identified the suspect as 22-year-old Patrick Guynn. Police responded with the tactical response team and hostage negotiators. Police did determine the suspect was armed with an A-R 15 rifle. He did fire some shots inside the building, but not at the hostages and negotiators determined they were okay.

Negotiators were able to gain the release of the male hostage after a couple of hours of the stand off and then about an hour later the suspect the female exited the store at about 9:30 PM. Police say the suspect had some self inflicted cuts on his hands and arms and was transported to the hospital.

Police says the hostages received no physical injuries.
