A man wanted to police in Des Moines sort of turned himself into police in Colorado by calling 9-1-1 and claiming to be held hostage by three armed bandits. Nineteen-year-old Luis Alvarado was riding on a bus near Frisco, Colorado, when he called 9-1-1 and told the dispatcher he was being held hostage.

The Colorado State Patrol evacuated the bus, searched all the passengers, but found no weapons. They traced the 9-1-1 call to Alvarado, and then discovered he was wanted by Des Moines police as a material witness in a weekend stabbing.

Alvardo is now in a jail in Breckenridge, Colorado. Des Moines cops plan to go there to interview him about the stabbing death of 16-year-old Eduardo Marquez, a soccer player at Des Moines East High School.
