Woman dies after being hit by machine shed door

A northwest Iowa woman who was injured during high winds Wednesday has died. The Sioux County Sheriff’s office reports a large machine shed door broke free from a building at a rural Alton farm Wednesday.

The door struck 61-year-old Janice Schuetz in the head and face. Schuetz was found unconscious by a family member about noon Wednesday. Authorities say she had severe injuries and died at a Sioux City hospital Thursday.

According to the National Weather Service, a peak wind gust of 49 miles an hour was recorded Wednesday morning at an airport near Alton.
