Deere laying off nearly 700 in Ottumwa

June 2, 2009 By admin

More layoffs are coming at a Deere and Company plant in Iowa.

Deere and Company is laying off most of its production workers at its plant in Ottumwa. The company cites decreased market demand as the reason for letting go nearly 700 employees.

Nearly 1500 Deere workers have been let go this year in Iowa at Deere plants in Dubuque, Davenport and Des Moines.

Most of the Ottumwa cuts go into effect at the end of this month. The Deere plant in Ottumwa manufactures balers, mower conditioners, and pull-type forage harvesters.
