Spirit Lake man faces attempted murder charge

A Spirit Lake man is facing attempted murder and other charges after police say he attacked a woman with a knife. Officers were called just after 11 p.m. on the report of an assault at a home. They discovered a woman had been assaulted with a knife causing serious injuries.

The woman, whose name is not being released, was taken to a local hospital before being transferred to a Sioux Falls Hospital. Police arrested 21-year-old Jeffrey Wittler. He is charged attempted murder, willful injury and assault while participating in a felony, going armed with intent, domestic abuse assault and interference with official acts. Wittler was booked into the Dickinson County jail.
