Bear spotted in Winneshiek County

June 9, 2009 By admin

Residents of northeast Iowa are being warned to keep their distance from a large, lumbering wild animal. The Winneshiek County Sheriff’s Department is reporting the sighting of a black bear near Castalia.

Sheriff’s officials confirmed the sighting after two separate reports. The bear appeared to be healthy and acting properly as it wandered its way out of Winneshiek County and into northeastern Fayette County. Sheriff’s officials say people should avoid contact when possible and keep from alarming or frightening the animal.
