Wrestling camp raises money for paralyzed dad of Hawkeye

June 12, 2009 By admin

Young wrestlers will have a unique opportunity to learn from the best in the nation in Arlington in northeast Iowa today and tomorrow and help a good cause as well. Over a dozen members of the Iowa Hawkeye wrestling team will be hosting a wrestling clinic at Starmont High School.

Iowa Hawkeye wrestler Chad Beatty says kids in kindergarten up through high school are welcome to attend. He says it will be a lot of fun with 13 Iowa wrestlers and also some from Cornell.

The Iowa Wrestling team, who are the current National Champs, will have Dan LeClere, Nick LeClere, Jay Borschel, Ryan Morningstar, Dan Erekson, Matt Ballweg, Stew Gillmor, Dan Dennis, Brody Ambrose and Chad Beatty.

Beatty says he and the other Iowa wrestlers are dedicated to making this a fun and personal experience for the kids and parents.

The wrestling clinic is called Back Points for Beatty. It’s a fundraiser for Chad’s dad, Paul Beatty, who was paralyzed from the waist down following a tree trimming accident seven years ago.

Beatty says they hope to raise enough money to send his dad to Germany for a stem cell treatment. He says his dad has been working hard to get back and walk.
