Whatever sparked a fatal fire in central Iowa a few months ago will remain a mystery. The case behind the February 3rd fire that destroyed two downtown buildings in Boone is now closed.

An official with the State Fire Marshal’s office in Des Moines said Tuesday that the cause will remain undetermined. This is due to the fact that was so much damage to the buildings it was hard to pinpoint where and how the fire started.

The fire in downtown Boone last February claimed the life of 25-year-old Benjamin Ziegenmeyer of Boone. His body was found in one of the apartment buildings heavily damaged as a result of the fire. Both of the buildings were declared a total loss along with some nearby businesses.
