Danica Patrick just wants to keep in contention to win

June 18, 2009 By admin

Danica Patrick hopes to break through with her first win of the season at this weekend’s Iowa Corn Indy 250. Patrick is off to a good start this season with five top five finishes in the first six races but is still in search of her first win.

Patrick says she feels if they can continue competing, the opportunities to win will present themselves more frequently. She says the problem is there are a lot of other drivers trying to win too.

After a 13th place finish in 2007 Patrick finished sixth in last year’s race. She says it’s a tough place to pass, especially in the first year as everyone was staying on the bottom. Patrick says passing is easier now, but she says qualifying is really important to get position.

Patrick is the most marketable star in the IndyCar Series but says remains focused on her goals as a driver. She says the most important thing is to put herself in a situation to win as many races as possible. Patrick says her best press comes when she does good things as a driver. The action at the Iowa Speedway begins on Friday night with the USAC Midget Series. IndyCar qualifying is Saturday afternoon.
