Temperatures across the state have finally warmed closer to normal, and those warm temperatures are creating more severe weather outbreaks. National Weather Service meteorologist, Ben Moyer, says the Wednesday evening storms were just an opening act.

He says they expect another round of thunderstorms this afternoon, and continue into this evening. And then there’ll be another round overnight. Wednesday’s storms brought high winds, hail and rain. Moyer says all that and more could happen in the next round, including possible tornadoes.

"Everything is on the table for these next couple of events," Moyer says. He says the tornadic activity is most likely in the late afternoon and early evening in northern Iowa, and then the threat is from winds and hail. Moyer says this is the time of year when the weather changes quickly — and you should be prepared for those changes.

Moyer says stay tuned to the radio and listen for the warnings, and then take shelter if needed. Wednesday’s storms blew down tree limbs and dropped rain that totaled over an inch in some areas.
