A two-month-old baby left unattended in a hot car is hospitalized after being rescued by authorities in Cedar Falls. The baby was found Monday night in a vehicle parked on the University of Northern Iowa campus.

U.N.I. police were called to the school’s soccer fields near the UNI-Dome just before 8:30 p.m. According to the National Weather Service, the temperature in Cedar Falls at that time was in the upper 80s, with a heat index in the low 90s.

U.N.I. spokesman Jim O’Connor says campus police feared for the baby’s safety because the parents weren’t around. So, officers broke out the car’s windows and took the child to a Waterloo hospital. O’Connor says the baby is "doing O-K" Now, officials are trying to determine who the child’s parents are and why the baby was left unattended in the scorching heat.
