Altoona man charged in fatal hit-and-run

July 15, 2009 By admin

A central Iowa man has been arrested and charged in a fatal hit-and-run that happened this past weekend.

Twenty-two-year-old Kristian Jamak of Altoona has been charged with reckless vehicular homicide and serious injury by vehicle.

He’s accused of driving the black Cadillac Escalade that failed to stop at a stop sign in Des Moines and crashed into a Pontiac. A 25-year-old Des Moines woman who was a passenger in the car died in the crash. The 37-year-old Des Moines woman who was driving was taken to a hospital, where she was listed in fair condition Tuesday.

Police say Jamak and a passenger in the S.U.V. jumped out of the Escalade and ran after the crash, which happened at about 1:30 Saturday morning. Jamak was arrested late Tuesday afternoon.
