Thunderstorms rumbled across Iowa last night and early this morning, bringing heavy rain, high winds and large hail. Aubry Wilkins, a meteorologist at the National Weather Service, says damage reports are widespread across Iowa.

There’s a report of three-inch hail just north of Des Moines in Johnston, while 60-mile-an-hour winds hit Dallas County, knocking down utility poles, and large tree limbs are down in Mason City. There are scattered reports of power outages.

One-inch hail is reported in several locations, including near Osceola in southern Iowa’s Clarke County and along the northern border near Estherville. As for precipitation, Bloomfield reports two-inches of rain in less than an hour overnight.

Wilkins says much of Iowa should get a break from the bad storms. The forecast for this afternoon is dry but she says there’s a chance of rain and possibly severe weather on Thursday night. For details, visit www.weather.gov .
