Drake hosts Jacksonville with PFL lead on line

October 29, 2009 By Todd Kimm

Consecutive wins on both coasts have put the Drake Bulldogs in the thick of the Pioneer Football League race heading into this weekend’s matchup at home against Jacksonville. The Bulldogs followed up a victory at San Diego by posting a come from behind win at Davidson and now at 4-0 are part of a three-way tie for first with Butler and Dayton.

Drake coach Chris Creighton says there’s a lot of football left to be played and they are picked to lose three out of the next four games. But he says they feel good about where they are and need to get better to sustain the hard-fought close victories. The kicking game will give the Bulldogs an advantage in every close game.

Drake kicker Brandon Wubs has 11 field goals already this season while opponents have only two. Creighton says the kicking game has been outstanding and they have ultimate confidence in the his field goal kicking and punting.

Jacksonvile has a number of experienced players who were part of last years PFL title team. Creighton says it was a lot of first for Jacksonvile last year as they cracked through and now they have more confidence. At 3-1 in the league race Jacksonville needs a win to stay in the hunt.

Creighton says Jacksonvile does not play Dayton and will play Butler, so they can control what happens to them.
