Shortly after 10 o’clock last night, the governor announced state workers in the executive branch had “three options” about work today.

In a prepared statement, Governor Culver told state workers to “use their best judgment” and if they believe it’s “unsafe” to make the trip to work today, they can do one of three things.

At the top of the list was taking the day off, without pay, since most executibe branch workers must take at least five furlough days between now and June 30th as a budget-cutting measure.  Workers could also choose to take today as a vacation day, or they could make-up the hours later.

Culver called this storm “historic and dangerous” in his statement.  The governor urge Iowans to be patient today if they try to reach a state office, as most will be sparsely staffed.
