Hunter injured in Greene County

December 21, 2009 By Radio Iowa Contributor

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources says a Carroll man suffered an accidental, self-inflicted gunshot wound while hunting Saturday in Greene County. Officials say 51-year-old Dennis E. Johnston was driving east on 185th street in rural Greene County with a loaded, un-cased 20-gauge shotgun, when he went to move the gun which was laying across his lap.

The shotgun discharged, hitting Johnston in the left knee. The accident happened at around 4:30 P.M. Johnston was taken to the hospital in Jefferson before later being transferred to Methodist Hospital in Des Moines. A report on his condition was not available.
