The superintendent of schools in Iowa City is leaving the district for a new job working for schools in western Iowa. Lane Plugge has been the Iowa City School District Superintendent since 1999. He’s planning to leave the district at the end of June to become the chief administrator of the newly formed Green Hills Area Education Agency in Council Bluffs.

The agency serves a 15-county area of 51 school districts comprised of nearly 44,000 students and 3,900 teachers and administrators. Plugge told the Iowa City Press Citizen that he wants to be closer to family. The 57-year-old Plugge has children and grandchildren who live in Lincoln, Nebraska. His mother and brothers live in Omaha.
