Businesses in Iowa that sell “winter survival” products are seeing more customers this month. Radio Iowa’s Pat Curtis reports:

Brian Wilson manages a hardware store on Des Moines’ northwest side. The store’s cash register was getting a workout Monday as local residents stock up on tools designed to fight snow and ice.

“Snow shovels, ice scrapers or sidewalker scrapers to chop up ice…they’re very popular,” Wilson said. “We also sell a lot of liquid ice melt…the stuff you spray on your (vehicle’s) windows to prevent ice from developing.” Other folks are spending hundreds of dollars on new snow blowers.

“It seems like we sell them as fast as we get ’em in,” Wilson said. Many Iowans are loading up on supplies in preparation for another winter storm this week. Wilson says, so far, his store is keeping up with demand and keeping the shelves stocked. “We’re able to get two truck (deliveries) per week, so we’re not running out of anything,” Wilson said.
