Dexter woman dies in car accident

February 3, 2010 By Radio Iowa Contributor

Authorities are releasing details of a crash in Guthrie County on Tuesday morning that killed one person and injured two others. According to the Iowa State Patrol, 22-year-old Sarah Elizabeth Salazar, of Dexter died, when her car went out of control on Highway 6 east of Stuart, crossed the center line and was hit head-on by a van at around 7:45 a.m.

The driver of the van, 31-year-old Shannae Sue Bower, of Stuart, and an unidentified child, were injured and taken to Methodist Hospital in Des Moines. Immediately after the crash, Salazar’s car spun out and came to rest on westbound lane of the highway, while Bower’s van ended-up in the south ditch. Salazar died at the scene.

The Patrol says she was not wearing a seatbelt. Officials say the road was icy at the time of the crash.
