This is the last of three weekends of competition at the Iowa Games.  About a thousand people are expected to participate in adult soccer.  Flag football teams will also face-off.  Among the nine competitive sports this weekend will be sand volleyball, ultimate frisbee and dodge ball.

Iowa Games executive director says the competition features athletes of all skill levels.

“I actually got to see a little canoe kayak last Saturday and I was amazed at one of the participants who…when younger was…one-slot away from the Olympics,” Hallihan says of the 51-year-old paddler.  “He did a terrific job.”

Hallihan says while everyone may have winning a gold medal as their goal, the main reason the amateur athletes participate is because “they want to have fun.”
