Father and son rescued from Winnebago River

August 4, 2010 By Radio Iowa Contributor

Rescue crews plucked a father and son from the Winnebago River near Hanlontown Tuesday morning. Dispatchers received a call shortly after 11 o’clock about two people in the river hanging on to a tree after the canoe capsized.

Authorities responded from both Worth and Cerro Gordo counties as well as the State Patrol and medical helicopter from Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa to assist in the search.

Fifty-seven-year-old Carl Christensen from Fertile and his 18-year-old son, Cade, were rescued at about 11:45 A.M. about a half mile east of the Fir Avenue Bridge. Neither man required medical attention.
