Thirty-six jobs will be lost in Mason City as Associated Milk Producers Incorporated is selling its instant milk business to better focus company resources on its core product line. AMPI president and C.E.O. Ed Welch says in a written statement that the company is committed to maximizing the value of the milk produced by the cooperative’s dairy-farmer owners.

He says the sale allows them to funnel milk into facilities where their primary dairy products are manufactured. TreeHouse Foods of Westchester Illinois is purchasing AMPI’s instant milk business. Terms of the sale include idling the instant milk processing facility in Mason City.

The 150,000 thousand square foot plant which stands on a 28-acre industrial site will be sold later. AMPI officials expect the plant to run through about September 1st, and employees were notified of that decision Thursday afternoon.
