Latham says jobs bill is more wasteful spending by Democrats

August 10, 2010 By Radio Iowa Contributor

The U.S. House passed a $26-billion jobs and border security bill after being summoned back to Washington D.C. by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. Iowa Congressman Tom Latham, a Republican from Ames, said prior to the vote that it’s another example of wasteful spending by the Democrats.

Latham says Pelosi is spending $10-million to call the House back for one day of work so Democrats can spend another $26 billion and put the nation further in debt. He calls it “outrageous.” Latham says this bill will only create more headaches for the federal government in the future.

He says the “son of stimulus package” will only hurt the future of our children and grandchildren as far as piling on more debt. Latham says it’s another case of Democrats trying to spend the nation out of a recession, something that hasn’t happened after the first stimulus package was passed with a promise of a drop in the jobless rate.

The nation’s unemployment rate has remained at 9.5% even with all of the stimulus spending, so he says just to spend more money goes against common sense.
