Residents of north central Iowa are bailing out after the latest episode of torrential rains and severe weather on Tuesday night. The evening began with a report of a possible funnel cloud sighted near Rockwell City at about six o’clock. Heavy rains were reported in several communities.

For example there were flooded streets in the town of Pomeroy with two feet of water reported. The Webster County community of Callender reported homes surrounded by two feet of water last night. In Hamilton County there were reports of roads under water due to the heavy rains.

In the town of Stanhope there was about two to three feet of water for time which prompted the closing of Highway 17 last night. The highway did reopen early this morning. In Webster City, motorists braved the commute by driving through high water in some sections late last night.

A Flood Warning has been posted until early tomorrow for portions of Hamilton, Webster, Wright and Humboldt counties. The good news is that the area will begin to dry out today after the storms of last night but will face high heat and humidity as temperatures soar into the low 90s.
