One man is dead and five were injured in a chain-reaction accident on Wednesday on a northwest Iowa highway. The Buena Vista County Sheriff’s Office reports that at about noon they received a report of a multi-vehicle collision with several injuries at the intersection of C-25 and U.S. Highway 71 near Rembrandt.

A preliminary investigation at the scene has indicated that a vehicle being driven by 15-year-old Cole Moens of Albert City pulled out from the stop sign at Highway 71 and pulled into the path of a semi loaded with rock being driven by 60-year-old Douglas Oldenkamp of Sheldon. This impact caused the Moens vehicle to be thrown into the path of another car being driven by 69-year-old Lee Geisinger of Laurens.

The semi then continued north into the path of another semi that was southbound on Highway 71, colliding head-on. This collision resulted in the death of the driver of the second semi who was pronounced dead at the scene. Injured and transported with serious injuries were Moens, and a passenger in his vehicle, 15-year-old Branden Bailey; Oldenkamp; Geisinger, and a passenger in his vehicle, 52-year-old Alice Geisinger of Laurens. Authorities say 35-year-old Gerald Boge of Humboldt died in the accident.
