A crash last night between a car and a pickup in western Iowa’s Audubon County claimed the life of a teenager. The Iowa State Patrol says 18-year-old Elizabeth Rose Hansen, of Exira, died at the scene of the crash about 6-miles northwest of Adair.

According to authorities, Hansen was driving a 1995 Oldsmobile Cutless Supreme eastbound on 300th Street at the same time a 1999 Ford F-250 pickup driven by Jeffrey James Grant, of Adair, was traveling west. The vehicle met on the crest of a hill and collided. Following the collision, the car burst into flames.

The patrol says Grant got out of his pickup and pulled Hansen out of her burning vehicle, but she died from her injuries. She was not wearing a seatbelt. Grant was wearing a seatbelt but apparently suffered only minor injuries, and was taken to his residence by a friend. The accident, which happened at around 6:45 P.M., remains under investigation.
