Santorum wraps up Iowa visit; Romney headed to Iowa this fall

August 18, 2010 By O. Kay Henderson

Former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum — a potential presidential candidate in 2012 — has just wrapped up his fifth trip to Iowa in less than a year.

Santorum began the week in northwest Iowa and on Wednesday he visited the Iowa Republican Party’s booth at the Iowa State Fair.  Santorum says he hasn’t started a “serious” fundraising effort yet, because he hasn’t decided yet whether he’ll run.

“There’ll plenty of time to raise money,” Santorum says. “I mean I’ve raised a little bit because I’ve got to travel and do some things and I’m trying to support a few candidates, but most of it is just what I need to get by as opposed to trying to raise any kind of significant dollars.”

Santorum helped five Iowa Republican candidates raise money this week.

Another potential 2012 presidential candidate will be in Iowa this fall to headline a fundraiser for Republican gubernatorial candidate Terry Branstad.  Branstad’s spokesman confirmed today that former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney would be coming to Iowa on Branstad’s behalf, but details of the event are not yet available.
