Two Ames police officers are on paid administrative leave after shooting a man early Tuesday. Forty-year-old Julian Anthony Kral of New Ulm, Minnesota, was pulled over by police after he was driving erratically.

Kral exited his car, then reentered and accelerated the vehicle directly at officers Patrick O’Bryan and Joshua Vander Zwaag. Both officers fired their weapons at Kral. They tried to get Kral out of the car after he was shot but he refused to listen to their commands and was combative.

The two officers used their taser guns to get Kral to comply. Kral was treated at Mercy Medical Center and was transferred yesterday to the Story County Jail in Nevada. He is being held on a cash bond of $22,500 for assaulting a police officer, disarming a police officer, eluding and interference with official acts.
